Milan Kundera

The Czech author Milan Kundera was born in Brno in 1929 and has been living in France, his second homeland, since 1975. He has written the novels: "The Joke," "Life is Elsewhere," "Farewell Waltz," "The Book of Laughter and Forgetting," "The Unbearable Lightness of Being," "Immortality," as well as the short story collection "Laughable Loves"—all in the Czech language. This includes earlier essays such as "The Art of the Novel" and "Testaments Betrayed." However, his more recent novels—"Slowness," "Identity," and "Ignorance"—were written in French.
