Iason Eyagelou

Iason Evangelou (the pen name of ophthalmologist and writer Evangelos Evangeliou) was born in Volos in 1926. He studied Medicine at the University of Athens (graduated in 1954), Philosophy (graduated in 1974), and Theology (audited for four years). He is a member of the Society of Greek Writers, the Hellenic Folklore Society, the Hellenic Society for Philosophical Studies, among others. He served as editor-in-chief of the magazine "Extensions in Education" (1991-1997) and the magazine "Kastalia" of the Hellenic Society of Medical Writers (1999-2005). Iason Evangelou made his literary debut in 1962 and since then has contributed significantly to the literary and philosophical fields, characterized by a critical and encyclopedic spirit, intellectual reflection, sensitivity and ethos, clarity of thought and expression, and concise articulation. Excerpts of his work have been translated abroad. For his contributions to Greek Letters, he has been honored with distinctions and received an honorary diploma from the Ministry of Culture (1999). He has also been included in Greek and international biographical dictionaries. His work spans almost all areas of artistic expression, and in addition to articles in encyclopedias, magazines, and newspapers, it comprises one hundred and twenty books. Among his most notable works are the "Aphoristic Reflections: MOSAICS OF IDEAS" and the "Aphoristic Poetry: MOSAIC OF POETRY," which continue—and renew—the tradition of epigrammatic expression (both prose and poetry) in Greek literature. In 2013, his book "Aphoristic Dictionary (General Education)" with 13,500 mosaics of ideas was published. In the same year, the Society of Greek Writers nominated him to the Swedish Academy for the Nobel Prize in Literature (for the years 2013, 2014).
