Georgios Schoretsanitis

Georgios Schoretsanitis was born in Trikala, Thessaly, in May 1953. In June 1970, he graduated from the B' Six-Class Boys' High School of Trikala. In October of the same year, he enrolled in the Medical School of the University of Athens after successfully passing the entrance exams, from which he graduated in June 1976. He specialized in Surgery at the Aretaieio Hospital in Athens. In November 1986, following examinations, he was awarded the title of General Surgery Specialist, and in 1989, the Medical School of Athens conferred upon him a Doctorate with the grade "Excellent." He has worked in various hospitals in Greece and abroad and has published several scientific papers in various journals. In recent years, he has been working as the Director of Surgery at the University Hospital of Heraklion. He is also involved in the history of medicine, culture, and folklore of other peoples, and travels extensively to various parts of the world. His writing focuses mainly on five areas of interest: A) The history of medicine: "The History of Islamic Medicine" (2011), "Historical Elements and Other Omissions in the Evolution of Anatomy" (2014), B) Travel literature: "Journey in Soviet and New Baltic" (2013), "Mythical Cities of the East" (2013), "In the Land of Eternal Fire" (2016), "Vietnam: The Land of Endless Rice Fields" (2017), "Wandering in the Mythical Cities of Uzbekistan" (2018), "A Summer in San Francisco" (2018), "Asian Nostalgias" (2020), C) African American history and culture: "A Brief History of the Ku Klux Klan" (2017), "The Most Famous Person Nobody Knew" (2017), "The Triple Painful Journey of African Americans" (2019), "Negro Blues and Their Medical References" (2020), D) Articles: "Small Confessions in the Anxieties of the Era" (2017), "When the Levees Break" (2019), and E) Book reviews: "Facing Foreign Challenges" (2018), "Stumbling on the Pebbled Shore of Writers" (2019). He curated the major tribute of the magazine Odos Panos to the blues (Issue 171, July-September 2016), as well as the corresponding tribute to the American poet Sylvia Plath in the same magazine (Issue 172, October-December 2016). In recent years, he has been writing and publishing regularly in the magazines "Odos Panos," "Koralli," and "Periodiko Logou, Technis kai Provlimatismou Anef" of Nicosia, as well as on the websites Fractal-The Geometry of Ideas, Press Publica, and the newspaper "Patris" of Heraklion, Crete.
