
Tony Judt
Tony Judt was born in London in 1948. He studied at King's College, Cambridge, and the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. He taught at the universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Berkeley, and New York; at the latter, he founded and directed the Remarque Institute for the study of Europe. He frequently wrote for the "New York Review of Books," the "London Review of Books," and the "New York Times." In 2007, he was awarded the Hannah Arendt Prize, and in 2009, the Orwell Prize for his lifetime contributions. He passed away in August 2010. Among many other works, he is the author of "Postwar: A History of Europe Since 1945" (Arthur Ross Book Award from the Council on Foreign Relations and one of the ten best books of 2005 according to the "Times Literary Supplement")
