Giorgos Mprounias

Giorgos Mprounias
George Brounias was born in Athens in 1946 and grew up in Chalandri. He studied archaeology at the University of Athens but worked as a journalist for the Greek Service of the BBC in London (1974-1979) and for the newspapers "Ta Nea" (1979-1990) and "Kathimerini" (1991-2008). He made his literary debut by publishing in magazines ("Lexi", "Ekivolos") in the 1980s. In 1989, the first part of his prose work "Notes for a Diary" was published by "Ekivolos". The second part followed in 1990, and finally, in 1993, the newly established publishing house "To Rodakio" presented the collected edition of parts A, B, and C of the book. His second book, "Excerpt" ("To Rodakio", 1996), lies between prose and poetry. After an anthology of translated Japanese poetry titled "91 Japanese Poems plus 1" ("To Rodakio", 2004), his shift towards poetry was solidified with two original collections, "The Company" (2005) and "The White Pebbles/Stamps" (2006), culminating in "Tent in the Air" (2009, Academy of Athens Award).
