Vasileios P. Vertoudakis

Vasileios P. Vertoudakis is an Assistant Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at the Department of Philology of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He was born in Rhodes in 1965. He studied at the School of Philosophy in Athens and the Classical Philology Seminar in Heidelberg. He holds a PhD from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has been collaborating with the Hellenic Open University since its establishment, teaching in the "Studies in Greek Culture" program. Among the subjects he teaches at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens are historiography, tragedy, erotic literature, and the political philosophy of the ancient Greeks. He has published two monographs on epigrammatic poetry: "Epigrammata Cretica" (2000) and "The Eighth Book of the Palatine Anthology" (2011). His interests also include the history of ideas in the West and the relationship between antiquity and modernity.
