
Betty Smith
Betty Smith, an American novelist and playwright, was born in 1896. The daughter of German immigrants, she grew up in the impoverished neighborhoods of Brooklyn, which serve as the backdrop for her most significant works. After her marriage, she moved to Michigan, where, encouraged by her husband, she attended university classes. Her most important novel, "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," was adapted into a film and staged in numerous theaters worldwide, achieving great success. She passed away in New York in 1972.
