Dimitris Tziovas

Dimitris Tziovas was born in Ioannina in 1957 and is a Professor of Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham, England. From 2000 to 2003, he served as the Director of the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek Studies at the university. He has taught as a visiting professor at numerous universities across Europe and America and oversees the translation series of modern Greek literature published by the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek Studies at the University of Birmingham. He has served as the Secretary of the European Society of Modern Greek Studies (1995-1998) and has been a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of Modern Greek Studies (1992-2007), Byzantine and Modern Greek Studies (1995-2009), Journal of Greek Media and Culture (Advisory Board 2014 to present), and Gramma, published by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (2003 to present). In 2011, he was awarded the Diavazo magazine prize for his book "The Myth of the Generation of the Thirties: Modernity, Greekness, and Cultural Ideology" (Polis 2011).
