Amalie Skram

Amalie Skram
Norwegian author, one of the most significant naturalist writers of her time in Norway. She was born in 1846 in Bergen. In her work, she aimed to provide a true depiction of the lives and emotions of women in a completely male-dominated society and era. Her characteristic pessimism and belief that the tyranny of natural laws governs the course of humanity permeate her entire body of work. She made her literary debut in 1882 with the short story "The Tenants of Mrs. Høyer." Her most important work is the tetralogy "The People of Ellemyr" (1887-1898), considered a classic representative example of Norwegian naturalism. She passed away in 1905 in Copenhagen.
