Nikos Drivas

Nikos Drivas was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1971. He grew up with Anglo-Saxon influences at Brunswick Public Elementary School. His musical influences from his teachers ranged from the Beatles and Bob Dylan to Pink Floyd. At a young age, he pretended to play songs by the glam rock band Sweet! In the early '80s, he was captivated by songs like "Babooshka" by Kate Bush, "Rock’n’Roll High School" by the Ramones, "Ashes To Ashes" by David Bowie, and "Ant Music" by Adam And The Ants, while also being impressed by the Human League, who were in the charts. His favorite moment of the week was watching the music TV show Count Down, eagerly waiting to see his favorite videos and, of course, the new number 1. He moved to Athens in 1983. Here, his musical development was significantly influenced by the punk band Stress, which rehearsed in the basement of his house. This connection led him to the local underground scene, and he eventually became a member of three bands: Distorted Image, Starblind, and Soho 6. Initially, in 1988, he formed the darkwave/gothic band Distorted Image, which was active until 1992. Several years passed before he returned to music due to studies and military obligations. In 1998, he created the short-lived indie pop band Starblind. This was followed in 2001 by the formation of the indie alternative band Soho 6. Since then, he has been writing articles about the Greek underground scene. Today, he is part of the writing team for the music web magazine Postwave.gr. "Release the Bats: The History of the Greek Dark Alternative Scene" is his first book.
