
Anne Carson
Anne Carson was born in Toronto on June 21, 1950. She is a classical scholar and literary writer. She studied at the University of Toronto and has taught at Princeton, McGill, Berkeley, Michigan, and New York University, among others. Her work is considered "unclassifiable," as it spans poetry, verse novels, and librettos to literary criticism and essays. She is also a distinguished translator of ancient Greek poetry, including works by Sappho, Aeschylus, Sophocles, and others. She has been a Guggenheim Fellow and a MacArthur Fellow and has received the Lannan Literary Award, the Griffin Poetry Prize, the T. S. Eliot Prize, and the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation.
