Periklis Korovesis

Periklis Korovesis (July 20, 1941 - April 11, 2020) was born in Argostoli. He studied theater with Dimitris Rontiris, semiotics with Roland Barthes, and attended courses with P. Vidal Naquet in Paris. From a young age, he was actively involved in the militant democratic movement of the Left. He was imprisoned and exiled during the dictatorship. His first book, "The Human Guards" (1969), was translated into many languages. In addition to prose, he wrote theater, children's literature, and, more recently, poetry. Alongside his writing activities, he maintained regular columns in "Eleftherotypia," "Epohi," and the magazine "Galera." Between 2007-2009, he served as a Member of Parliament for SYRIZA in the A' district of Athens. Works: - "The Human Guards" (testimony), Stockholm 1969 - "Common Ground" (texts), 1976 - "Description AGCTTGA+TCGAACT" (Twenty-five texts by P. Korovesis, thirteen paintings by Chronis Botsoglou), 1980 - "Around the Island the Sea" (novel), 1982 - "The Assembly of Animals" (musical fairy tale - music by G. Kouroupos), 1983 - "Giannakis and Marditsa" (fairy tale), illustrated by K. Digkas, 1986 - "Atam Al' Ak" (musical children's theater - music by P. Perrakis), 1987 - "Tango Bar" (theatrical), 1988 - "News Trading" (articles 78-90), 1990 - "Operation Judith" (theatrical), 1992 - "Pious Women of Passion" (novels), 1995 - "With Six Hundred Words" (collection of texts), 1996 - "Nostalgia of Memory" (narrative), 1999, etc. [photo: Katerina Chatzidimitriou]
