Alexandros Mallias
Alexandros Mallias is an Ambassador ad honorem. He hails from the mountainous region of Gortynia (Stemnitsa). He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Athens and a certificate from the Hellenic Mathematical Society. He pursued postgraduate studies at the University of Geneva. As a diplomat, he served under 11 governments and 15 Ministers of Foreign Affairs, including roles at the Council of Europe, as Chargé d'Affaires in Libya, at the Conference on Security and Cooperation in Europe, at the Permanent Mission of Greece to the United Nations, and with the European Union Monitoring Mission in Croatia, Bulgaria, and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM). He was the first Greek Diplomatic Representative in FYROM, Ambassador to Albania, and Director of Balkan Affairs. By decision of Foreign Minister Petros Molyviatis, he was appointed as the Ambassador of Greece to Washington, D.C. (2005-2009). In January 2007, he was awarded the International Martin Luther King Award in Washington for his work in the Balkans. He is a lecturer in the postgraduate program "Diploma in Negotiations" at the Athens University of Economics and Business, in the postgraduate seminar "Security and Cooperation in the Mediterranean" at the University of the Peloponnese, and at New York College.
