Maria Koulouri

Maria Koulouri was born in Chalkida in 1975 and currently resides in Athens. She works as a Speech Therapist, Mental Health Counselor, and Facilitator for a theater group for adults with autism and intellectual disabilities. Her debut poetry collection, "Empty Museum" (Melani Editions, 2013), earned her the Emerging Poet Award from the Hellenic Authors' Society in 2014. She was also nominated for the State Poetry Award and as an emerging poet at the literary awards of the magazine "O Anagnostis." In 2015, her second poetry collection, "Clocks and Other Beats," was published by Melani Editions and received the "Sotirios Matranga" Award from the Academy of Athens in 2016. Her theatrical monologues have been presented as staged readings by the International Theatre Institute of Athens. She also wrote the screenplay for the short film "Forget-Me-Not."
