Henry James

Henry James was born in 1843 in New York, but his parents were of Irish and Scottish descent. His father was a distinguished theologian and philosopher, and his older brother, William, also excelled in the field of philosophy. He studied in New York and later in London, Paris, and Geneva, and entered Harvard Law School in 1862. In 1865, he began publishing reviews and short stories in American magazines. In 1875, after two trips to Europe, he settled in Paris, where he stayed for a year. There, he met Flaubert, Turgenev, and other literary figures. The following year, he moved to London, where he engaged in an active social life. In 1898, he left London and settled permanently in Sussex. He died in early 1916 in London.
