Christopher Alan Bayly

Sir Christopher Alan Bayly was born in 1945 in England. He studied at the University of Oxford. He is a Professor of Imperial and Naval History at the University of Cambridge, the president of St Catharine's College, and the director of the Cambridge Centre of South Asian Studies, as well as a fellow of the British Academy. When he was knighted by the Queen in 2007, he stated: "I regard it not only as a great personal honor but also, as a historian of India, a recognition of the increasing importance of the history of the non-Western world."
