
Antonis Makrydimitris
Antonis Makrydimitris is a professor of administrative science in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the Law School of the University of Athens. He studied law and political science at the University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies with an IKY scholarship abroad at the London School of Economics and Political Science and University College London. As a Fulbright scholar, he was a visiting researcher in 1992 at Princeton University in the USA, as well as at the Universities of Cambridge and London in England. Born in Corinth in 1955, he lives and works in Athens. He is married to philologist Avgi-Anna Maggel and has two children. He has authored books, studies, and articles on public administration, public policy, history, and social theory. In the field of literature, he has published the poetry collections "The Night of the Statues" (Achaikes Editions, 1991), "Difficult Retreat" (Gavriilidis, 1999), "Testimony" (Patakis, 2005). In 1994, "300 Love Poems" by Izumi Shikibu were published by Prospero Editions, translated by him. His other published translations include two plays ("Mountain Language," "The Party") and poems by Harold Pinter, "A Dream Play" by Strindberg, as well as poems by Philip Larkin, Antonio Machado, Omar Pound, Walt Whitman, Stephen Spender, Peter Levi, Czesław Miłosz, and Derek Mahon.
