Giorgos Xenarios

Giorgos Xenarios (author, critic, translator, columnist) was born in Athens in 1959. His first book was published in 1990 ("The Fall of Constantine," Kastaniotis Editions). This was followed by: "The Twins" (Kastaniotis Editions, 1994), "Sculpting the Light" (Kastaniotis Editions, 2001, shortlisted for the "Diavazo" Award), and "At the Edge of the World" (Kedros Editions, 2011, shortlisted for the State Novel Award and the "Diavazo" Award). As a critic, he collaborated with the "Bibliothiki" supplement of "Eleftherotypia" (2000-2009) and with "Diavazo" (2005-2012), while maintaining a regular column in the magazine "Exodos" (2007-2010). Additionally, his writings (articles, comments, reviews) are regularly published in newspapers ("Vima," "Kathimerini," etc.) and literary magazines ("To Dentro," "I Lexi," etc.). As a translator, he has translated over 20 titles from French, two of which ("The Temptation of Saint Anthony" by Flaubert [Ellinika Grammata Editions, 2006] and "Carnivorous Stories" by Bernard Quiriny [Metaichmio Editions, 2010]) were shortlisted for the EKEMEL Translation Award. He has taught creative writing at the American College of Greece-Deree (2003-2006), and organized and was the main lecturer of the creative writing seminar at Metaichmio Editions (2006-2010). He also taught literary translation (from French) at the French Institute and EKEMEL (2000-2003). From 2011 to 2014, he taught creative writing in the Master's Program in Creative Writing at the University of Western Macedonia. He served as the General Secretary of the Hellenic Authors' Society (2007-2010), of which he has been a member since 2002, and was a member, representing Greece, of the jury for the Balcanica Award (2011). He was also a member of the State Literary Awards committee (2012-2013).
