Mary Wollstonecraft

Mary Wollstonecraft (1759-1797) was an English writer, philosopher, and advocate for women's rights. She is considered by many to be the first feminist. Her most famous work, "A Vindication of the Rights of Woman" (1792), passionately and convincingly argues that women are not inferior to men and that the misconception otherwise arises solely from their lack of proper education. She passed away shortly after the birth of her daughter, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, at the age of just thirty-eight.
