
Eyagelos P. Papanoutsos
Evangelos Papanoutsos was born in 1900 in Piraeus. He studied at the universities of Athens, Berlin, Tübingen, and Paris. He earned a Doctorate in Philosophy from the German University of Tübingen and was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Law from the Scottish University of St. Andrews.
His contribution to the operation and reform of Greek Education is well-known. He served in education from 1920 and progressed through all levels of the hierarchy as an educator until, after the country's liberation, he was appointed General Director and later (in 1950 and 1963) General Secretary at the Ministry of Education. He taught philosophy, psychology, and pedagogy for 20 years at the educational club "Athenian." He was Vice President of the "Athens Technological Group" and a Member of Parliament in the first Democratic Parliament. Under his direction, 15 volumes of the magazine "Paideia" (1946-1961) and 100 volumes of Ancient Greek Authors, published by I. Zacharopoulos (1954-1958), were released. His literary work includes dozens of books, not only in Greek but also in German, English, and French. He passed away in 1982.
