Iasonas Sigma

Iasonas Sigma (the pen name of Dimitris Sdrolia) is a philosopher and psycho-ontologist, holding a PhD in Philosophy and Psychoanalysis from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He has been analyzed in classical Freudian and later Lacanian contexts. He studied acting at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre (having performed at both the small and large theatre of Epidaurus) and solo piano at the Athens Conservatory and the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, with recitals in Greece and abroad. He writes theater, poetry, and prose (in Greek and English) under the artistic pseudonym "Iasonas Sigma." His philosophical treatise "Cogito Mortis: From the Death of the Subject to the Subject of Death," a manifesto of post-postmodernism for art, philosophy, science, and psychoanalysis, based on his doctoral dissertation, is published by Nisos Editions with a foreword by Eleni Potamianou and is included in the Princeton University library's Modern Philosophy section. His work "A Soldier Named Love" received the State Theater Award (2016) and was staged at the "New Stage-Nikos Kourkoulos" of the National Theatre in the Spring of 2018, in co-production with the Piraeus Municipal Theatre. The book is published by Nefeli Editions. His poetic composition "Chronosoma" was shortlisted by the Reader in 2014 in the Emerging-Poetry category, while Katerina Anghelaki-Rook introduced him to the wider public by engaging with "Chronosoma" alongside fragments from her entire work in a hybrid, poetic experiment for the first time at the "Epi Lexei" bookstore. His poetry has been awarded (First Prize) on the occasion of the fifty years since the birth of Kostis Palamas and by the International Art Society and Academy (Inerartia Festival 2013), and he is among the winners of the Logotechnis short story competition dedicated to C.P. Cavafy. His poem "Plastic Doll Speaks" was set to music for soprano and five instruments by Ioannis Papadopoulos and presented at the Fanny-Hensel Saal of the Hamburg University of Music. His plays "Noise" and "Makeup" have been awarded (First Prize) by the State Awards Competition of the Ministry of Culture and the Panhellenic Union of Writers, with "Noise" presented by Bijoux de Kant at the Art Theatre in October 2014 (Analogio Festival) and "Makeup" at the Michalis Cacoyannis Foundation in January of the same year. They are available in book form, along with five other works, in the volume "Noise, Works 2009-2016." His poetic composition "M.E.M.: The Particle of Love" is introduced by Katerina Anghelaki-Rook.
