
Marina Lampraki - Plaka
Marina Lambraki-Plaka was born in Arkalohori, Heraklion, Crete. From 1960 to 1964, she earned a degree in Archaeology with honors from the University of Athens. Between 1964 and 1968, she pursued further studies in Archaeology and Art History at the University of Athens and the Athens School of Fine Arts. From 1968 to 1973, she completed her postgraduate studies in Art History at the Sorbonne. She received a State Doctorate (Doctorat d'Etat es Lettres) with honors from the Sorbonne (Paris I). In 1975, she was appointed as a Professor of Art History at the Athens School of Fine Arts. Since 1992, she has served as the Director of the National Gallery. In 1985, she received the Kazantzakis Prize, and in 1989, she was awarded the First State Prize for Essay Study for her book "On Painting: Alberti and Leonardo." She has been honored with the Order of the Knight of Arts and Letters by the Italian and French Republics and the Order of Alfonso the Wise by the Spanish Government. She has published numerous books and articles on Art History.
