Konstantinos I. Gourgoulianis

Konstantinos I. Gourgoulianis is a Professor of Pulmonology at the Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly and the Director of the Pulmonology Clinic at the University of Thessaly. He has served as Vice-Rector and Rector of the University of Thessaly, as well as President of the Hellenic Thoracic Society. He graduated from the Medical School of Athens in 1982. He completed his doctoral thesis on "The distribution of circulating cancer cells in the organs of the immune system (experimental study in rats)," which was completed in 1985 and received an excellent grade. He obtained his specialization in Pulmonology in 1989. He has participated as a researcher or scientific supervisor in 50 research projects and has supervised more than 30 doctoral theses, 20 of which have already been completed. He is a member of numerous scientific committees of National and International Conferences, a reviewer for international medical scientific journals, and a member of national and international scientific associations. Since 1990, he has published approximately 350 papers in reputable international medical journals and another 250 in Greek medical journals, along with 50 special articles. His work has been cited 6,500 times. His books are taught in the Medical Schools of our country. He has a particular interest in the history of medicine, the social dimension of tuberculosis, and the study of epidemics in our country. At least three of his books aimed at the general public have been published to date.
