
Atul Gawande
Atul Gawande (1965) is a surgeon at Brigham Hospital in Boston, a professor at Harvard Medical School and the Harvard School of Public Health, and a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine. He is the author of the books "Complications: A Surgeon’s Notes on an Imperfect Science" (2002), "Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance" (2007), and "The Checklist Manifesto: How to Get Things Right" (2009), which have received significant acclaim and have been translated into multiple languages. He has been awarded the Lewis Thomas Prize for Writing about Science and two National Magazine Awards. He leads Ariadne Labs, a center for innovation in public health, and is the head of Lifebox, a nonprofit organization aimed at making surgeries safer worldwide.
