
Hjalmar Torp
Hjalmar Torp is an Emeritus Professor of Medieval Art History at the University of Oslo, Norway. He spent five months in Thessaloniki between 1953 and 1954, studying the mosaics of the Rotunda, on which he subsequently published numerous studies. In 1981, he received the Silver Medal of Saint Demetrius from the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, Panteleimon. A member of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters, he was honored in 1999 with the prestigious Fridtjof Nansen Medal for his outstanding research in early Christian, Byzantine, and medieval art.
