
Patrick Süskind
Patrick Süskind was born in 1949 in Ambach, Bavaria. He studied Medieval and Modern History at the University of Munich. Süskind has written short stories and collaborates with various publications as a journalist, while also writing screenplays for films. He is considered one of the most popular contemporary German authors. "Perfume" was published in 1985, marking his debut novel, and became a worldwide success with numerous reprints. It has been translated into 37 languages, remained on the "Der Spiegel" bestseller list for 9 years, sold over 12 million copies, received numerous international awards, was selected by the "New York Times" as the Book of the Year for 1986, and was adapted into a film by director Tom Tykwer in 2006.
