Stayroula Zorzou

Stavroula Zorzo was born in Piraeus in 1970. She studied at the Athens School of Dentistry and furthered her education in implantology at Baylor University in Texas. She practices dentistry as a dental surgeon. Early on, she developed an interest in music and literature. She studied Advanced Theoretical Classical Music, composition, and music technology at the Conservatory of the Piraeus Association. She plays the accordion, piano, and cello and holds a Diploma in Byzantine Music from the Ministry of Education. She composes in both Byzantine and Classical music, with her recorded compositions available on CDs, and her works are performed by choirs at concerts and festivals. Recently, her works were presented at the Athens Concert Hall under the auspices of the Union of Greek Composers. In literature, she focuses mainly on poetry and prose. She is a member of the National Society of Greek Writers, the Union of Greek Writers, and the Union of Greek Doctors-Writers. Her work is extensively referenced in the Great Encyclopedia of Greek Writers by Haris Patses publishing house, and her works have been published in magazines and collective literary editions. She has received awards from the Union of Greek Writers, the Church of Greece, the Society of Arts, Science, and Culture, among other organizations. Her work "Embroidering Keratsini with Verses" - a book and music CD - is a literary approach to the history from prehistoric times to the present day, published by the Municipality of Keratsini as a historical and musical album of the city. Her book "You Told Me," featuring children's stories, was honored with the children's book award at the First Orthodox Children's Book Awards. In the same competition, her unpublished book "Listen, Friend" received the Adolescent Book Award, and her song "Rabbi" won the Christian Song Award. She has collaborated with the radio station of the Piraeus Church and participates in the youth and social work of the Holy Metropolis of Nikaia. Many of her songs are circulated in catechisms and camps. She lives in Keratsini, where she maintains a private dental practice. She is married to theologian-author Efstathios Pelekanos, and they have a daughter.
