Paul Kalanithi

Paul Kalanithi was a neurosurgeon and author. He was born in 1977 in New York to parents of Indian descent. He grew up in Kingman, Arizona, and studied English literature and human biology at Stanford. He completed his doctorate in the history and philosophy of science and medicine at the University of Cambridge, and finished his medical studies at Yale School of Medicine. At Stanford, during his postdoctoral work, he received the highest honor from the American Academy of Neurological Surgery. He passed away in March 2015, leaving behind his wife, Lucy, and their daughter, Elizabeth Acadia.
