Anthony Trollope
Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) is regarded, alongside Dickens and Thackeray, as one of the greatest writers of the 19th century. The son of an unsuccessful lawyer, he had a difficult childhood and began writing his first book after establishing a career as a civil servant in the British postal service. In total, he wrote 47 novels, which quickly became bestsellers and earned the admiration of leading contemporaries such as George Eliot, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Wilkie Collins, Henry James, and George Orwell.
