Gilbert Keith Chesterton

G. K. Chesterton (1874-1936) was born in London and passed away in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire. He spent his school years at St Paul's School, where, despite his efforts to remain discreetly inconspicuous, he stood out from a young age for his literary achievements. He then attended literature courses at University College London and illustration at the Slade School of Art, without completing his studies. There, he met Ernest Hodder-Williams, who encouraged him to engage in book criticism for the Bookman. This marked the beginning of his career as a novelist. Chesterton worked across all forms of written expression (prose, poetry, theater, political and theological essays, literary criticism) and exercised intense social criticism through his fiction and irony. Besides the five volumes of detective stories featuring Father Brown ("The Innocence of Father Brown," 1911, "The Wisdom of Father Brown," 1914, "The Incredulity of Father Brown," 1926, "The Secret of Father Brown," 1927, and "The Scandal of Father Brown," 1935), his most well-known works include: "The Napoleon of Notting Hill" (1904), "The Man Who Was Thursday" (1908), his study on Dickens, "Charles Dickens: A Critical Study" (1906), and his essays "Orthodoxy" (1908) and "The Everlasting Man" (1925), among others.
