Michael Morpurgo

Michael Morpurgo was born in 1943 in England. He studied English and French literature at the University of London and then worked as a teacher for ten years. Among his students, he discovered that what he truly wanted to do was write stories for children. Today, he is one of the most well-known English children's authors, with more than ninety books published and translated into over 26 languages. Additionally, five of his books have been adapted into films and television movies. Many of his books have been honored with significant awards such as the Whitbread Children's Book of the Year Award, the Smarties Prize, the Children's Book of the Year Award, the Cercle D'or and the Prix Sorciere in France, the A.L.A. Best Book of the Year in the USA, and The Silver Pencil in the Netherlands. Morpurgo also served as the Children's Laureate (2003-2005) and was awarded the prestigious honor of OBE in 2006 for his overall contribution to literature. He currently lives with his wife in Devon and has three children and four grandchildren.
