Frank Belknap Long (April 27, 1901 – January 3, 1994) was an American author who particularly excelled in the genre of speculative fiction, covering almost all its branches, including science fiction, fantasy, horror, and gothic romance. He also ventured into satire, detective novels, and even non-fiction works. His significant contribution to the renowned Cthulhu Mythos, a creation of H.P. Lovecraft, with whom he shared a close friendship for many years, is noteworthy. Throughout his life, he was honored with numerous awards in the field of speculative fiction. However, as he often remarked, "Yes, I really enjoy writing, but I would be happy if my main occupation was natural history." He left behind a vast body of literary work, and his name is certainly counted among the most important in the pantheon of speculative fiction literature.
