Giorgos K. Pappas

George K. Pappas was born in Constantinople in 1903 and moved to Athens in 1931. Educated in the French tradition, he studied Law in Paris and practiced as a lawyer in France and Madagascar. In 1940, he enlisted in the Greek Army and fought on the front lines. From the spring of 1941, he was actively involved in the founding of the resistance organization National Action. He escaped to the Middle East in 1943 and joined the 2nd Anglo-Hellenic Caique Squadron, Greek units that conducted operations in the Aegean using caiques. He returned to Greece in 1944 and was discharged from the Navy in 1946. Subsequently, he wrote for the newspaper "Eleftheria" as well as two French-language publications, "Messager d'Athenes" and the Swiss weekly "Construire." During the civil war from 1948 to 1950, he worked as a translator for the UN mission in Grammos. He passed away in 1982.
