CHaralampos Mpakirtzis

Charalampos Bakirtzis is an honorary Curator of Antiquities. He served from 1964 at the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki and the Ephorates of Byzantine Antiquities of Central and Western Macedonia, Eastern Macedonia, and Thrace, where he supervised, among other things, the excavations at Abdera and the "Synaxi" site in Maroneia. As the Curator of Byzantine Antiquities in Thessaloniki, he completed the restoration of monuments and the conservation of mosaics in Thessaloniki, a project initiated after the 1978 earthquakes. He was an Assistant and Associate Professor of Byzantine Archaeology at the University of Thessaloniki (1988-1998) and has been the director of the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation since 2011. He leads the Greek Archaeological Mission at Agios Georgios Pegeia in Cyprus, founded and directs the Center for Contemporary Archaeology, and is a member of the Thessaloniki Society of Writers. Additionally, he is a member of the European Centre for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments (EKBMM).
