Dimitris Dimitriadis

Dimitris Dimitriadis was born in Thessaloniki in 1944. He studied theater and film in Brussels from 1963 to 1968. There, in 1966, he wrote his first play, "The Price of Rebellion in the Black Market," which was staged by Patrice Chereau in 1968 at the Theatre d'Aubervilliers in Paris. In 1978, his first novel "I Am Dying as a Country" was published, followed by the poetry collection "Catalogs 1-4" in 1980, and his play "The New Church of Blood" in 1983. Subsequent works include: "Anthropodia. The Assignment. Prelude to a Millennium" (novel), "Catalogs 5-8" (1986-poetry collection), "The Elevation" (1990-play), "The Unknown Harmony of the Other Century" (1992-play), "Catalogs 9-Definitions" (1994-poetry collection), "The Beginning of Life" (1995-play, staged the same year by Stefanos Lazaridis at the Theatre of the South), "The Dizziness of Animals Before the Slaughter" (2000-play directed by Yannis Houvardas at the Theatre of the South), "Oblivion and Four Other Monologues" (2000 - the monologue "Oblivion" was staged in 1998 in Paris at the Petit Odeon by J.-C. Bailly, in 2001 at the Theatre de Bobigny by A. Dimitriadis, and in 2002 at the Attis Theatre by Th. Terzopoulos), "Catalogs 10-12" (2002-poetry collection), "Anthropodia 1" and "Anthropodia 7" (2002 - State Novel Award 2003), "Procedures for Settling Disputes" (2003-play directed by Giorgos Lanthimos, staged at the Exosti of the Theatre of the South), among others. He also systematically engaged in translating prose works by Jean Genet, Georges Bataille, Witold Gombrowicz, Maurice Blanchot, Gerard de Nerval, Balzac, Bernard-Marie Koltes, as well as plays by Molière, Euripides, J. Genet, G. Courteline, Tennessee Williams, and Shakespeare for various theaters. After 1980, he closely collaborated with "Agra" publications, which have published most of his work, and more recently with "Saixpirikon" publications in Thessaloniki.
