Giannis Ap. Panousis

Giannis Ap. Panousis (Athens, 1949) served as a Professor of Criminology for 19 years at the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace, where he was elected Dean, Vice-Rector, and Rector (1994-1997). He also served for 19 years at the Department of Communication and Media Studies of the University of Athens, where he was elected President (2003-2007). He is the founder of the journal "Chronika" of the Criminological Sciences Laboratory of Democritus University of Thrace and the founder and director of the series "Criminological Studies." He has authored 30 books and 200 articles of criminological/penitentiary interest and has participated in numerous Greek and international conferences. He has published 4 poetry collections under the pseudonym Giannis Aparthinos and has published 11 crime stories in collective volumes and literary magazines. From 2012 to 2014, he served as a Member of Parliament for Athens A with the Democratic Left (DIMAR), and from January 2015 to August 2015, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Citizen Protection.
