Nikos A. Paraskeyopoulos
N. Paraskevopoulos is a Professor at the Faculty of Law at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He has served as the President of the Law Department at Aristotle University and is currently the Dean of the School of Law, Economics, and Political Sciences at the same university. He has a significant presence in legal practice, having participated in legislative committees, acted as a mediator during prisoner uprisings (1990, 1996), and managed reintegration programs for released prisoners (1988-1997). Many of the positions he advocated have been adopted into criminal legislation, including reforms of crimes against state freedom, the decriminalization of adultery, the introduction of cases for judicial remission of sentences, new legislation for the confinement of mentally ill individuals in psychiatric hospitals, the abolition of the death penalty and special anti-terrorism laws, the decriminalization of contempt of authority, and the reduction of sentences for dependent small-scale traffickers. Between 1993 and 1995, he served as an advisor on criminal and correctional law to the then Minister of Justice, G. Kouvelakis. He has represented the country at conferences or committees of international organizations and served on the Board of Directors (as president) of K.E.TH.E.A.
