Ippokratis o Koos

There is little information about the life of Hippocrates, who was born on the island of Kos. His father was a physician, and Hippocrates is also mentioned by Plato as a renowned doctor. During his medical practice, he worked in Athens, Thasos, and the Macedonian royal court. Although none of the 60 surviving studies from the medical schools of Kos and Knidos can be definitively attributed to him, Hippocrates is considered the founder of medicine as an empirical science based on unbiased observation and description of disease symptoms and critical diagnostics, free from superstitions. The historical significance of Hippocratic medicine for our time is less related to specific therapeutic practices and more to its conscious departure from divine and magical perceptions of disease and healing, as well as placing medical activity under an ethical mandate of responsibility. The "Hippocratic Oath," which professes the practice of medicine on a moral basis, appears to have a later origin and is not directly from him.
