
Nelli Spathari
Nelli Spathari (Eleni Spathari-Begliti) was born in Athens in 1956. She holds a degree in French Philology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and in Greek Philology from the University of Ioannina, where she also completed her doctoral dissertation in the field of Folklore ("The Potters of Sifnos: Social Structure, Production, Movements," Arsenidis Publications, 1992). She pursued postdoctoral studies in Paris as a State Scholarships Foundation scholar at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales, focusing on Social Anthropology and Social and Economic History. Her study "Historical and Social Folklore of Eastern Thrace" was awarded by the Academy of Athens in 1994 (A. A. Livani, 1997). She was appointed to Secondary Education, taught at the Experimental Gymnasium and Lyceum of Anavryta, served as a School Counselor for Philologists for eleven years, and was the Head of Pedagogical and Scientific Guidance at the Regional Directorate of Education of Attica. She taught at the Hellenic Open University (HOU) and participated in the scientific team that authored the three-volume textbook for the Thematic Unit "Public and Private Life of the Greeks: Modern Times II" (HOU, 2002). Additionally, she compiled the "Anthology of Essays on Public and Private Life in Greece (19th-20th Century)" for the same Thematic Unit (HOU, 2008). She authored the educational manual for Second Chance Schools titled "Aesthetic Education and Training" (Institute of Continuing Adult Education, 2000). She has published educational manuals for high school students, including "Topics in Modern Greek History for Grade 12: Selection and Analysis of Historical Sources" (Patakis Publications, 2011) and "Topics in Modern Greek History for Grade 12: Mock Exams" (Patakis Publications, 2017). Her novella "Staka, My Heart" (Bookoo Editions, 2020) and the youth story "A Summer Chess Game and Another One" (Bookoo Editions, 2020) were awarded by the UNESCO Club for Arts, Literature & Sciences (2018 and 2017, respectively). She has numerous published papers in Greek and international conferences, as well as articles in scientific journals. She has participated in educational programs at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. She has also been involved in translating texts from French in the field of Social Anthropology and children's books.
