
Han Kang
Han Kang was born in 1970 in Gwangju, South Korea, and moved to Seoul at the age of 10. She studied Korean Literature at Yonsei University. Her literary debut came in 1993 with five poems. The following year, she won the Seoul Shinmun's New Writer's Contest with her story "Red Anchor." Her first short story collection, "Yeosu," was published in 1995. The book "The Vegetarian" (2007) brought her international recognition, as its English translation (2015) was awarded the 2016 Man Booker International Prize. She has also published the short story collections "The Fruits of My Woman" (2000) and "The Salamander of Fire" (2012), as well as the novels "Black Deer" (1998), "Your Cold Hands" (2002), "Breathless" (2010), "Greek Lessons" (2011), "Human Acts" (2014), and "The White Book" (2016). Han Kang lives in the South Korean capital and is a professor in the Creative Writing Department at the city's Arts Institute.
