Rowan Williams
Rowan Williams was born in 1950 in the city of Swansea, Wales. At the age of 36, he was already a Professor of Theology at the University of Oxford. Simultaneously, he was ordained as a priest and, in 1991, became the Bishop of Monmouth in the Church in Wales. In 1999, he was elected Archbishop of Wales, and in 2002, Archbishop of Canterbury. He held this position for a decade before voluntarily resigning in December 2012. In 2013, he returned to academia as the Master of Magdalene College at the University of Cambridge, a position he holds to this day.
