Nikos Orfanidis

Nikos Orphanides was born in Kythrea, Cyprus, in 1949. He is a poet, prose writer, and essayist. He holds a degree from the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Crete, with his work "Hellenism and Greekness in Cavafy." He is the publisher of the literary and critical magazine Akti, which has been circulating in Cyprus and Greece since 1989. He taught in secondary education schools in Cyprus and for years taught philosophy at the Pedagogical Academy of Cyprus. He was seconded to the Program Development Service of the Ministry of Education and Culture. He is currently an inspector of philological subjects at the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus. He has been honored with the State Essay Award and the State Poetry Award by the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus.
