Alkis Agelou

Alkis Angelou was born in 1917 in Athens. He studied philology at the University of Athens and earned a doctorate from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He taught in private secondary education and served as the director of the State Scholarships Foundation (1951-1967). In 1969, he founded the publishing house "Hermes" with Lena Savvidis, where he created the "New Greek Library" series featuring annotated editions of classic modern Greek texts, from which he retired in 1994. He was a professor of comparative literature at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (1975-1984), where he held the title of emeritus professor, and he also taught at the Ionian University (1985-86). He passed away in Athens in 2001.
