Deborah Feldman

Deborah Feldman was born and raised in the Satmar Hasidic community of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. Her native language is Yiddish. In 2012, at the age of twenty-five, she published her autobiographical book "Unorthodox: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots," which inspired the eponymous mini-series released by Netflix in 2020. The series was nominated for eight Emmy Awards, winning the award for Best Directing. "Unorthodox" has been translated into more than twenty-five languages. In 2014, she published her book "Exodus: A Memoir." She now lives with her son in Berlin.
