Jules Michelet

Jules Michelet (1798–1874), one of the most significant figures in 19th-century French historiography, worked at the National Archives of France and taught at the Collège de France. Later, he fell into political disfavor and lost all his public positions in 1852. A prolific writer, he left behind, among other works, a six-volume History of France (1833–1844) and a seven-volume History of the [French] Revolution (1847–1853).
