Dimitra Markopoulou

Dimitra Markopoulou was born in Athens, where she studied Classical Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 2020, she graduated from the Master's program in Creative Writing at the Hellenic Open University. Since 2008, she has been working as a philologist in Secondary Education, developing programs in reading promotion and creative writing. She served in Heraklion, Crete, which became a source of inspiration for her. As part of educational programs, she has coordinated two award-winning student films: "The Dark Prophecy of Cassandra" and "2084." Under her guidance, students have adapted Homeric epics into Cretan dialect and works such as "Romeo and Juliet to be," "Antigone," "The Birds," and the trials of Theramenes and Pythias from Xenophon's Hellenica. She is a member of the group "Reading for Others," which targets vulnerable social groups by conducting therapeutic readings in Elderly Care Units. At the same time, she fosters a spirit of solidarity in schools by promoting co-education activities with special schools and senior centers. Her short story "A Pointless Move" is included in the collective volume "The Stories of Confinement" by Aparsis Publications, and the short story "Fugomahia" is featured in the collective work "Stories" by Nikas Publications, both of which were recognized in literary competitions related to the virus.
