Ilias Voliotis-Kapetanakis was born on June 18, 1955, in Volos, where he completed elementary school. In 1967, he moved to Athens and graduated from the six-grade high school in Nikaia, Piraeus. He attended the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens during the significant period of 1973-1978. Simultaneously, he has been involved in journalism since 1975. He served as a member of the editorial board initially for Odigitis (1975-1976) and then for ten years for Rizospastis, focusing on youth issues. Since 1986, he has worked in the news bulletin editorial team of the Hellenic Radio, collaborating with newspapers and magazines, primarily in political and military reporting, but occasionally covering cultural topics related to Greek folk music: Eleftheros Typos, Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia, Apofasi, Amyna kai Diplomatia, Ptisi kai Diastima, Difono, Metronomos, Diavazo, Ichos, Nea Epohi (a Cypriot literary magazine), Thiteia, among others. From the fall of 1998 and for five years, he hosted a daily political program for the Greek diaspora (ERA-5, The Voice of Greece). Today, he is a military correspondent at ERA-5.
