Tereza Pentzopoulou - Valala
Teresa Penzopoulou-Valala is a Professor of Philosophy at the School of Philosophy of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, where she taught philosophy from 1973 to 2001. In 1995, she was elected a corresponding member of the Academy of Athens. She served as President of the Hellenic Philosophical Society (1989-1991) and as General Secretary of the Society for Macedonian Studies, where she currently serves as Vice President. She is also Vice President of the Hellenic Society for Aesthetics (HSA) and represents the Society at the General Assembly of the International Association for Aesthetics. She was elected General Secretary of the Association of Companies for Inter-Balkan Cooperation of Women and is a board member of the Friends of Music Society of Thessaloniki. In 1995, she received the "Woman of Macedonia" award from the Soroptimist Clubs of Thessaloniki for her overall scientific and social contributions. The French Government awarded her the Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite for promoting cultural and scientific relations between Greece and France. She has taught Philosophy at the Universities of Strasbourg, Dijon, and Montpellier. Her extensive body of work includes studies published in Kant-Studien, Fichte Studien, Etudes Philosophiques, Phaenomenologica Analecta, Philosophy, among others. She pursued music studies at the National Conservatory of Manolis Kalomoiris in Athens and the Music Academy of Munich, earning a piano diploma (soloist) with first prize for exceptional performance in Athens in 1956. She is married to Emeritus Professor Dimitrios Valalas of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is the mother of two children.
