Petronius
The Roman author Petronius lived in the 1st century AD, during the reign of Nero. A lover of life, unrestrained by societal norms, he theatrically presents the unbridled morals of his time, far from any inclination towards moralizing. Indeed, many believe that Petronius invented his protagonist in the "Satyricon" to biographically document his own reality. Encolpius, and what he represents for his creator, Petronius, is a victim of the whims of fate—sometimes favored, sometimes harshly treated—but above all, he lives for the present.
