Giorgos Kakoulidis

Giorgos Kakoulidis was born in Athens in 1956. He is the son of a painter and the grandson of a sculptor. At a young age, he traveled on cargo ships. He made his literary debut in 1979 with the poetry collection "Liberty" (a reference to his sea voyages), published by "Keimena tou Filippou Vlachou." In 1994, he was honored with the International Cavafy Award in Alexandria, Egypt. His poetry has been set to music by Thanos Mikroutsikos, Nikos Kypourgos, Tasos Meletopoulos, Stamos Semsis, and Nikos Saragoudas with Giorgos Trantalidis. Alongside his writing career, he is also involved in painting. He has held three solo exhibitions in Athens (Agathi 2001, Ersi's Gallery 2003, and Booze 2010).
